"SAN FRAN THE NUMBER 1"
Out of the 52 municipalities and cities of the Province of Cebu, the Municipality
of San Francisco came out as the Grand Champion of the 1st Expanded Green
and Wholesome Environment that Nurtures (e-GWEN). This is one of Governor
Gwendolyn F. Garcia's major comprehensive projects in partnership with the
Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Inc. (RAFI), which aims to make Cebu an ideal
place to live, work, play, invest and do business. The E-GWEN program is
carried out by evaluating each municipality and city in all the categories and
performance indicators on cleanliness, sanitation and health; greening,
protection and enhancement of the environment; creativity, artistry and
aesthetic impact; and appreciation, promotion and nurturing culture and
heritage.
Aside from being the recipient of a one-million Php cash prize as the eGWEN
Grand Champion awardees, San Francisco also received the Green
Champion Award, as well as the Model Town Award, and some other minor
awards.
Barangay San Isidro, one of the 15 barangays of the Municipality of San
Francisco, which won third place at the barangay level, was also awarded a
Php200,000.00-cash prize. In addition, the Soli-Soli Festival contingent placed
fifth in the Ritual/Showdown Competitions and second place in Best in
Costume during the Pasigarbo Sa Sugbo 2009 last August 15 at the CICC.
The awarding ceremony was held last August 17, 2009, also at the CICC. The
prestigious awards were received by no less than the mayor himself, Hon.
Alfredo A. Arquillano Jr.
These great and fantastic achievements of the Municipality of San Francisco
were made possible through the able leadership of Vice-Mayor Al Arquillano,
the help and support of all the municipal officials and employees, the
participation and cooperation of all the nice people of San Francisco, and of
course the blessings and guidance of our Lord Jesus Christ, for without him
we can do nothing.
